Kano Masanobu, along with his child Kano Motonobu (1476-1559), prepared the base of the Kano decorating school, which was begun in dispute against the Chinese very dark ink decorating method. The Kano school made use of brilliant and vibrant colors and experimented with bold compositions that encompassed large and flat areas. These oil paintings became a source of inspiration for the Ukiyo-e designs. The "nanga" decorating method was highly famous throughout the Bunka and Bunsai era.
